The development and the present status of dark hollow laser beam obtained by laser beam shaping at home and abroad are detailed in this paper.The application of hollow laser beam in researches, production and life, and many other fields are summarized. The basic principles of producing dark hollow laser beam by combination of positive and negative transmission type axicon. combination of positive and negative reflection type axicon and the phase modulation are analyzed in depth. For the problem of actual existence of diffraction effect in the course of generating hollow beam,we promoted the idea of the4f spatial frequency filtering system to solve the diffraction effects, and research on the basic structure of the optical system in depth.At last experimental devices for producing dark hollow beams by coupling the4f spatial frequency filtering system and the output hollow beam system are processed.thus we access to a large number of valuable experimental images and data. And, ultimately, the hollow laser beam of real physical meaning are obtained in the laboratory.Thus the problem of "none empty hollow" in the process of generating the dark hollow beam has been solved.
