YAN-Y gas well field is located in southeast WuQi county, Ordos basin. Being a new gas exploring region in Palaeozoic, it is considered to research its stratigraphic sequence, structural situation and distribution and hydrocarbon-generating ability of source rocks, so as to understand the fluid properties, reservoir types and characteristics of Permian, Carboniferous and Ordovicianin hydrocarbon resources, then do reservoir comprehensive evaluation. Based on all these studies and combined with cap rock development status to do comprehensive research of the whole reservoir. Finally, for serving the gas exploration and development in Ordos basin, the ultimate step is to evaluate the exploration potential of Palaeozoic hydrocarbon resources.Based on logging strata and sedimentary theory, using key layer comparison, cycle contrast, curve combination and combining geological layer division of gas wells adjacent to YAN-Y, YAN-Y gas well can be divided from up to down:Permian Shiqianfeng group, Shihezi group, Shanxi group, Taiyuan group, the carboniferous Benxi group and the ordovician Majiagou group.Neopaleozoic hydrocarbon source rocks are mainly deep and dark lacustrine mudstone including mudstone, carbonate rock and coal, which almost located in Shanxi formation. This set of source rocks is the most important gas rock in upper Paleozoic, and organic matter types, abundance and maturity of source rock can be analyzed through core description and a series of core analysis. The main reservoir is He8section of Shihezi group and sediments in shallow lake-delta front of Shanxi group. Reservoir physical properties are generally poor, low porosity and particular low permeability. From analyzing hydrocarbon source conditions, reservoir conditions, cap layer and barrier conditions, structure and trap, the control factors of gas distribution, characteristics and distribution of gas reservoir can be determined.
