With the development of landscape architecture, the cross-disciplines with ecology, environment and sociology becomes more and more significant. And now it’s becoming one of the study trends that we work on plant landscape level through a variety of methods that can reflect the law of vegetation and then provide reliable basis for the planning of the plant landscape. Yongding River, which planned as the green ecological corridor in western Beijing and the ecological barrier in southwest Beijing, plays an important role in Beijing’s ecological construction, and it has long been a worthwhile topic on how to make a scientific planning of Yongding River as to guide the construction of the plant landscape in the future. This paper makes the vegetation in Yongding River mountainous section’s riparian as the research object.Based on the study on vegetation history, distribution condition and landscape evaluation, this paper makes a plant landscape plan.Through documents research, we got a lot of experience and lessons about plant usage on river management and also the history of Yongding River mountainous section’s vegetation change. We explored the ecological law among species, plant community and environment by using cluster analysis, interspecific association and correlation, species diversity index and CCA ordination analysis in the research. We evaluated the function and characteristics of riparian zone’s plant landscape via site investigation, thus came up with possible ways to improve local plant landscape. Combining these three aspects of research, we provided strategies on the planning of Yongding River mountainous section’s riparian zone, also recommended particular species that adapt for growth in different environment along Yongding River mountainous section’s riparian zone, and constructed suitable plant community model for specific environmental conditions.Based on the research, conclusions were presented as following:(1) Through the study of vegetation change history, we know that the vegetation types of Yongding River mountainous section’s riparian zone are mainly broad-leaved deciduous forest and coniferous forest, but through the history due to mankind’s overcut the vegetation along ravine had changed into secondary forest, which has caused serious ecological problems. As to river management using plants, the ancient "six ways to plant willow" and "Yanchi Forest" can be useful.(2)In the study of the vegetation structure, the vegetation in Yongding River mountainous section’s riparian zone is divided into2vegetation types and6formation groups;21dominant species can be divided into3ecological species groups that in groups there are positive correlation but negative correlation among groups; four environment factors have more obvious influence to the vegetation formation, namely elevation, offshore distance, slope and disturbance;(3)In the study of landscape evaluation, the function of Yongding River includes ecological, recreational, educational and productive functions. Although Yongding River is characterized by its richness in species, remarkable in seasonal change, zonal distribution in plant community structure and diversity in plant landscape, there are also many problems such as less unified landscape, no prominent feature, serious disturbance, etc.(4)To the planning level, we put forward some strategies such as preserving the original vegetation in riparian zone, scientifically handling the relationship between farmland and environment, recovering the original vegetation on destroyed area and so on. Also, we recommended200species which are suitable for different level of elevation, water condition and human disturbance, and recommended16plant community models for different environment conditions. The plant landscape constructed following the vegetation formation law, plant landscape elevation and vegetation history have the characteristics of low construction costs, low maintenance costs and more local flavor. This paper tried to provide a new comprehensive multidisciplinary path for plant landscape planning by combining the research method of historical, ecology and landscape subjects.
