Optical vortex is a special light beam which was taken seriously and widelyresearched and applied in recent years. Optical vortex has a special wave frontstructure and the photon orbital angular momentum, which is important and widelyused now in optical micro manipulation, atomic optics, biomedicine, nonlinear opticsand optical information transmission and other fields. It has a lot affect to promotescientific and technological progress, but also improve the people’s understanding ofthe world and the nature, make people with a more scientific way to realize themovement of the microscopic world and speed up the progress of human civilization.When light wave phase have a unable to defined singularity and the singularity of thelight intensity is zero, the light phase around the singularity along the perpendicular tothe direction of propagation of a spiral distribution can form optical vortex, opticalvortex is an important branch of the modern optics. In this paper we mainlyintroduced the development history and research status of the optical vortex.Describes the principle of interference of multi vortex lights, and the superpositionprinciple, the characteristics of the vortex beam and the methods to produce differentvortex beams. The main content of the paper includes four parts.First,introduced the development history and the research status of optical vortexand summarized the present stage, the application of the optical vortex. Illustratesthe research content and purpose of this paper.Second, analysed the basic principle of optical vortex. From geometricdistribution and mathematical analysis on the formation principle of vortex beam areanalyzed, and gives the ideal optical vortex, plane vortex beam, circular optical vortex,laguerre gaussian beam and high order Bessel beam formation principle of vortexbeam and characteristics of several common, indicating the laguerre gaussian beamand the generation of high-order Bessel beam method. Third, list some vortex mathematical representations of light, the intensity anddistribution characteristics of vortex light has carried on the related research, Detaileddiscusses the vortex beams of light interfere with each other through a variety ofdifferent way can produce a variety of composite optical vortex, present a novelinterference light intensity and phase distribution feature. Using the method oftheoretical analysis and numerical simulation is further evidence the interferencebetween two symmetric distribution’s vortex beams, by changing the background lightfield, the amplitude of the beam waist radius, phase difference etc. Analyse thecomplex vortex complex amplitude and intensity of the light field distribution. Thepaper provides a effective method for the study of complex vortex interference.Fourth, the fourth part studies the two beams of coherent light interferenceformed partially coherent optical vortex, we synthesize the superposition of twobeams of coherent light field coherent vortex to synthesis coherent vortex in thesuperposition of partially coherent light field, and made a detailed calculation andanalysis, the analysis results show that the synthesis of coherent vortex and the beamorder N, the distances and the coherent parameter has great relationship. With thedecrease of the N and a or the increase of the distances, synthesis of increase in thenumber of coherent vortex, and the corresponding changes in position. When in freespace transmission, the synthesis of coherent vortex will annihilation or mobile.
