The distribution of hydrocarbon source rocks of the northern edge of the Junggar Basin arewide in East Junggar basin,abdominal area and northwest region. The purpose of this study isto identify the state of development and resource potential evaluation of CarboniferousHydrocarbon source rocks in the northern edge of the Junggar Basin, analyze the insiderreservoir characteristics in Carboniferous, implement the top surface structure ofCarboniferous and make a comprehensive analysis of hydrocarbon accumulation conditionsof the Carboniferous. At last proposing conducively to Tectonic zone and sections for oil-gasmigration and accumulations, and providing a reliable basis for the oil-gas exploration inCarboniferous. Through the investigation and measurement of field section, sampling analysisof Carboniferous hydrocarbon source rocks, researching organic characteristics ofhydrocarbon source rock in the outcrop area, collecting statistics of Carboniferoushydrocarbon source rock thickness that have been drilling in different regions, analysis of theCarboniferous organic abundance and organic matter type, and evaluating Carboniferoushydrocarbon source rock. Through field geological survey, combined with magnetic, electric,seismic data to implement the development of hydrocarbon source rock, evaluation ofgenerating potential of Carboniferous hydrocarbon source rocks. The northern region hasmultiple sets of hydrocarbon source rock, mainly in Jurassic, Triassic and Carboniferous, butlack of Permian hydrocarbon source rock. Since the thermal evolution degree of the Jurassicand Triassic source rock is low, the study of the main hydrocarbon source rocks is mainly inthe carboniferous. In eastern and abdominal area, wide distribution of Carboniferoushydrocarbon source rocks, mainly sedimentary tuff and tuff. Upper Carboniferoushydrocarbon source rocks are mainly distributed in Dajing, Xiayan, Wucaiwan, Zhangbei andShixi area. They are in the weak or reducing environment to form better mature sapropelic-humic type hydrocarbon source rocks. The lower Carboniferous are mainly distributed inWucaiwan and Dishuiquan area, which form good sapropelic-humic type hydrocarbonsource rock in a reducing environment.Carboniferous hydrocarbon source rocks are Widely distributed in North of Junggar basin. From the existing drilling data and complete the electricprofile, Kelameili Piedmont Wucaiwan depression to Luliang Uplift Area, especially ofhydrocarbon source rock of Carboniferous Dishuiquan formation is a set of high organicmatter abundance, types of mixed partial humic type of mature source rock whose potential ishigher. Also in the Wulungu area especially batamayineishan formation of Carboniferoushydrocarbon source rock can reach a certain size of oil-gas reserves, so the search for oil-gasresources in the Carboniferous hydrocarbon source rock is feasible.The northwestern margin’ssedimentary center for the Carboniferous is heshituoluogai basin.Through the analysis of thedata of the northwestern margin of Baikouquan, Hongshanzui area and the vitrinitereflectance that this area has high-overmature source rocks and evolution degree is high.Sothe hydrocarbon generation capacity is very small,and has little exploration prospect.
