Since1987, Photonic crystals--this new type of artificial electromagnetic material become the focus of research scholars at home and abroad. So far, there have been many new photonic devices which based on photonic crystals were successively put forward, such as the lossless reflector and laser with no threshold wavelength, optical microcavity with high quality factor, extremely high resolution and small volume prism, the photonic crystal fiber, and high extraction efficiency light-emitting diode, and so on.Additionally, the LED which involved in the global lighting revolution is also a hot topic nowadays. Extraction efficiency and service life of LED has been the focus of scientists. Among them using photonic crystals, is an effective method to improve the efficiency of extraction. I work mainly through a study on GaN LED with photonic crystal to improve its light extraction efficiency.At the same time, the concept of quasi-periodic crystal been put forward has caught a lot of scientists point of view. At present, a lot of theory and experiment have proved that photonic band gap materials not only confined to the periodic arrangement of crystal structure, but also exist in the quasi-periodic crystal structure. So much so that the band gap properties of quasi-periodic crystal significantly is better than the periodic photonic crystal. So it must has a broad prospect.Another work in this paper is designing and optimizing the theory of two kinds of quasi-periodic crystal photonic crystal, and experimental research. In this paper, the content of the chapters are as follows:1) It mainly introduces the theoretical model, production method and application of photonic crystals.2) The study of the theory and experiment of photonic crystal.Through the design of photonic crystal structure parameters, optimization of the extraction efficiency of LED; Based on the optimized structure, make photonic crystal template with double-beam holographic interferometry, And try to make LED device with photonic crystal structure. 3) The design and production of ten-fold quasi-periodic photonic crystal structure.In theory, we designed a top-cut prism interferometer and ten-fold quasi-periodic photonic crystal structure.On experiment,we make ten-fold quasi-periodic photonic crystal structure with different-beam holographic interferometry.4) The study of sun-flower type quasi-periodic crystal photonic crystal band gap characteristics, and the optimization design with a dot or line defect microcavity and waveguide structure.
