When map conduct as a carrier of geographical information visualization, visualelements include not only point, line and polygon in the rendering layer, butdecoration element as visual elements.Decoration element in this article refers todecoration out of the border of map,based on the theme of the map sheet, configurethe auxiliary element closely related to map content.Above all, decoration element is arequired element of the map which contains map title,map code,adminiregion,mapindex,scalebar,slopescale,three-north direction,secretrank,technique,responsible tablein this article.Through the analysis of analyzing the existing problems which presentin domestic and foreign geographic information system mapping software on thefunction of adding map decoration,this article proposed the idea of database’management on decoration elements,explicit the important meaning of establishingthe decoration element information standard library not dependent on the specific GISplatform, and implement intelligent adding and management of decoration element bydatabase’ driving mapping. Based on the visual studio.net platform,with the using ofC#programming language and ArcGIS Engine component library, this article isdesigned interface of intelligent adding decoration element under standard scalemapping and implement the application of national basic scale mapping.Under standard scale mapping,the management of decoration in datebase refersto the storage of specification of decoration element and decoration date in output andmainly realize the design of stored structure on decoration elementinformation.Considered redundancy, repetition caused by storage informationassembly, this paper adopts spatial index technique, object-oriented technique andtemplate management technology for database structural design, at the same time,realize layered management and object serialization database storage of decorationelement data after adding, which both provide a new thought and method for thestorage, retrieval, management and maintenance for decoration element information.The intelligent adding interface of decoration element main complete the accessto specification in database and element adding two parts, based on a specification library for decoration elements, using ArcGIS Engine, retrieved information will beadded to the map surface in the form of the element. This interface can not only adddecoration element alone,but also the whole, integrating into the other mappingplatform to use and extend easily. when map scale, map type and map extend aregiven, invoking the interface can determine the content of decoration on thesurface,access to the specification in the database, which can realize intelligent addingof decoration element to the map under the mapping scale. This paper mainly designthe interface of t adding decoration elemen in the mapping of national basic scale, aswell as1：200000geological map, at the same time, extensible transplant the interfaceto the application in other areas mapping.
