With the increasingly stringent requirements of energy conservation and the continued growth of coal prices, modern cement companies face dual requirements, which are reducing operating costs and energy conservation. Rotary kiln cement is the most important equipment of cement production, but it is one of the highest energy consumption too. Therefore, analyzing and controlling cement rotary kiln, which can realize the energy conservation, have a very important meaning.The cement rotary kiln combustion system has very complex characteristics, which include big inertia, pure time delay and nonlinearity. In this paper, the model of rotary kiln combustion system is established using the least squares support vector machine(LS-SVM). And the kernel function of the least squares support vector machine parameters is optimized using particle swarm optimization algorithm(PSO), which is superior to neural network optimization algorithm. Finally it obtains the optimal model parameters. The large amounts of data were collected from the cement plant, and using least squares support vector machine to screen the data. Several groups of optimal data are obtained. The model of the combustion system is established and simulated using Matlab software. The simulation results show that the model can accurately forecast the rotary zone temperature and kiln temperature. In the meanwhile, the model minimums the fuel consumption, so it plays an important role in saving energy. In addition, the control system is established, this system also can control MICROMASTER 440 transducer using the serial communication of computer and RS-485 corresponding line, sequentially adjust the speed of motor and the quantity of coal. It developed control interface of coal using VC++ software, and it can change at any time by adding the amount of coal kiln through the interface.The innovation of this paper is the least squares support vector machine, which is applied to cement rotary kiln. It gets a very good prediction model. The controlling system of coal quality is established using the least squares support vector machine model and VC++. The results show that the model achieves the purpose of energy conservation for the rotary kiln, and the establishment of coal quantity control system can detect and adjust the amount of coal at any time, which serves the effect of saving coal.
