To meet the requirement of new rules for hull plate forming, according to the shortcomings of existing hydraulic press, new hydraulic press frame of shipbuilding was improved. Based on reliability and optimization theory, the reliability of the hydraulic press was evaluated and redesigned. And the new frame of the hydraulic press has high stiffness and lightweight, then the stiffness of the hydraulic press was tested and the rationality of the design was verified.The specfic content of this paper are as follows:1) The status of ship building hydraulic press, the design method of hydraulic press and the research situation of structural reliability design were elaborated. The origin and the research significance were summarized and the main contents of the subject was presented.2) The design process of the hydraulic press was introduced. And with one type of 15000 kN hydraulic press of the series as an example, the design process was presented.3) The failure mode of the hydraulic press was analyzed using the fault tree.Based on the FORM, the reliability of the hydraulic press frame was evaluated, Then the results was checked by MCM.4) Two different kind of hydraulic press frame was compared based on the FEM. The stiffness and strength was analyzed in different conditions. The rationality of the new structure was checked.5) With 15000 kN hydraulic press as an example, the optimization of the lower beam was designed based on reliability. The the main influence factors of the reliability of the beam was determined using DOE, and then the RBF modelwas set up, the multi-objective optimization was carried out based on NSGA-Ⅱ.6) The the testing method of stiffness of the ship building hydraulic press was elaborated. And the stiffness of the 15000 kN was tested.The results showed the new frame of the hydraulic press had a high stiffness.
