It has been identified that texture on surface of friction pair can greatly improve tribologicalproperty, and reduce friction. Micro-pits array have been wildly used in engineering field such asinterior surfaces of the cylinder, exterior surface of piston and piston rings, improving the utilizationrate of energy.This paper concentrates on the fabrication of micro-pits with dimension of tens of microns tohundreds of microns with Mask Electrochemical Machining (MECM), research work was listed asfollows:(1) The method of movable mask electrochemical machining is used to produce micro-pits arrayin interior surfaces of the column, and special fixture is designed. Processing parameters, such aselectrolyte pressure and current density are investigated to get effects on the morphology of micro-pits.Machining voltage, processing time and duty cycle are also studied with the method of orthogonal test.After optimizing the processing parameters of MECM, micro-pits array in interior surfaces of thecylinder with the diameter of220microns and height of15microns are produced.(2) A new method named dry film assisted electrochemical machining is proposed to producemicro-pits array, the parameters such as exposure and developing time are studied to find effects onthrough holes of dry film. Machining distance, machining time and voltage are also investigated tofind effects on morphology of micro-pits. Based on the above experiments, micro-pits with diameterranging from40microns to200microns could be produced.
