Coal water slurry was a new type of clean coal product, it was an importantdevelopment direction of coal processing industry. How to improve the solid content ofCWS was the researchers’ concern.Based on the theory of Andreason and compressible packing model, thecalculations of modifying and packing density of the coal particles have been carriedout,and the calculation results have been also verified by experiments. Meanwhile theinfluences of the size range and add volume on packing density has been discussed. Theresult indicated that:1) The particle size distribution can be optimized by modifying, and it was close tothe one of close packing;2) The packing density of coal particles was well predicted with compressiblepacking model and it was increased by6%after modifying;3) Under the condition of close packing, the large size range was helpful forimproving the packing density of the system;4) With the increasing of modifying material, the packing density was alsoincreasing and it is close to the packing density under close packing;5) The addition of fine powder related to the powder of raw material. If the contentwas less, proper introduction of fine particles can effectively improve the packingdensity of the system, if it was surplus, the packing density of the system willdecreased as the increasing of fine particles.6) CWS viscosity increases with the increasing of concentration; Under the sameconcentration, the viscosity and stability of ideal material and adjust material wassignificantly better than the raw material;The concentration of CWS quenched increased from64%to68%;7) Calculated by the quenching and tempering, the limit of large grain size particles,only added to the fine particulates, different particle size gradation of CWS performancestill met the above laws, the slurry concentration was slightly reduced, the stability ofCWS was good.8) The coal-water slurry viscosity wsa reduced in different degrees by fouradmixtures, the adaptability was better, comprehensive consideration of the viscosity,stability and other aspects of performance, WH and SY additives was better.
