Clamping mechanism is one of the key structures of injection machine, and its performance directly affects the quality of injection molding products. Therefore the structural design of clamping mechanism is particularly important. For a long time, however, manufacturers of injection machines in China generally adopt experience analogy design method in the design of clamping mechanisms, as it is difficult to meet the design requirements. Yet. the advanced CAE technology and experimental design method open up good prospects for the development and design of high-precision clamping mechanism.According to the actual needs of an enterprise, this paper conducts research with five-point double-toggle clamping mechanism as the object, and applies CAE simulation analysis technology and orthogonal design method to the finite element analysis (FEA), motion simulation, structural optimization design and robust design. The paper includes the following aspects:(1) On the basis of access to the domestic and foreign development status of injection machines and the research status of clamping mechanisms, the inadequacies of the current researches by domestic and foreign scholars on clamping mechanism are summed up, and the overall research program of clamping mechanism optimization design and robust design in this topic is put forward.(2) The paper analyzes the motion characteristics of clamping mechanism, and makes detailed analysis on the optimization, constraint and robust features of clamping mechanism; builds solid model of clamping mechanism, uses ANSYS to conduct finite element static analysis of the complete clamping machine, and makes motion simulation analysis of the clamping mechanism model based on virtual prototype simulation-based technology(3) For the problem of overlarge template deformation of clamping mechanism in mould clamping, the paper combines finite element numerical simulation technology with orthogonal experiment method with lightweight as the objective of clamping mechanism. The structural optimization design of clamping mechanism makes a significant reduction in weight of the clamping mechanism, reduces production costs, and reduces the deformation of the template to improve the parallelism between the platens and operational performance of the mechanism.(4) In combination of virtual prototype simulation technology and DOE, with molded route for the output characteristics target, the paper carries out the Taguchi robust design research on it, making the molded route more close to the expected target value, and improving the repeatability precision of open clamping position in the clamping process and the operational performance of the whole mechanism.In short, the research carried out in the paper for five point double toggle clamping mechanism improves the performance of the mechanism, saves the cost of production and provides an important design reference for the research on optimization design and robust design of clamping mechanism and other pressure machinery of the same types. Thus the research on this topic has highlighted practical engineering significance.
