Current gray cast iron is often used as the material of the brake drum in ourcountry, however, gray cast iron is almost no elastic limit, thus materials are prone toplastic deformation even though under the condition of a low stress. Brake drum iseasy to form thermal fatigue stress when it is working. Consequently, the continuouscycle of alternating hot and cool making the materials to produce thermal fatiguefailure. When brake drum working, the surface of the material will be softened andthis is because of the increasing of surface temprature which is caused by kineticenergy conversions when the brake is at work. Therefore, when friction and wear toofierce, friction coefficient will be reduced and also can caused the failure form offriction and wear. When we observe nature of the animals and plants continuously, itis found that in the past few years, the natural organisms have experienced a brutalsurvival rules of species evolve and survival of the fittest, but the species also cansurvive to now and allow to flourish which is closed related to the non-smooth ofbiological surface resulting its surface has special function to better adapt to thenatural environment. It is the magic of nature mak ing us have a new study direction offriction and wear properties. In recent years, our group through the study of bionicand non-smooth surface which is uesed as the theoretical basis. And we are dealingthe surface of the material with laser processing technology to get bionic non-smoothunit and make the thermal fatigue and wear performance of the material improved in acertain extent. The materials will be used in real engineering work.In this paper, on the basis of the bionic non-smooth theory, we employ lasermelting to deal with the surface of the gray cast iron. This method is not only simple, easy to operate and can automatic processing, but also is no longer need to do a followtreated and it is can reduce the cost. In our work, try my best to reduction brake drum real working environment and combinate problems of the brake drum encountered inthe actual work. We have researched the influence on the properties of thermal fatigueand friction-wear, and the organization of bionic non-smooth sample at differentthermal fatigue cycles and thermal fatigue temperature temperatures...
