During the past several years, there has been increasing concern with the indoor air quality. Active sampling and passive sampling methods are used to collect indoor air samples. Active sampling can collect gas samples in a short period of time. Compared with the traditional active ways, passive sampling is able to get a long time-weighted average concentrations, which means more to health risk evaluation. This thesis focuses on polycyclic aromatichydrocarbons (PAHs) as the target pollutants, which are widely present in indoor air, and studies on the passive sampling methods and monitoring methods for gaseous PAHs.Sampling technology method for PAHs in vapour phase is introduced. Little volume bottles for passive sampling half-filled with Carbotrap B of20/40mesh are used to collect gaseous PAHs in indoor air as adsorbent. Little volume tubes connected to Pocketpump for initiative sampling to calibrate the rate of passive sampling. Analytical method for trace PAHs in vapor phase is proposed. Accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) is for the pre-treatment of samples collected. The method for determining15kinds of PAHs and2kinds of deuteration standard substitutes is using gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (GC-QumMS). The recoveries of11kinds of PAHs were63-105%, and relative standard deviation was less than20%. The detection limits ranged from1.1ng to8.2ng (Except for Indeno[1,2,3-cd]pyrene and Benzo[g,h,i]perylene). The passive sampling rate of the sampling devices was8.42ml/min, which was suitable for collecting the trace gaseous PAHs (2-3rings) in indoor air.The current situation of PAHs pollution in the indoor air of five buildings with different functions in Nanjing was investigated. Through nearly100days of continuous passive sampling, the results showed that the PAHs pollution in indoor air in Nanjing was at a high level. The levels of total PAHs in the indoor air ranged from228-1250ng/m3. The PAHs detected mainly in2-3rings. The PAHs pollution was serious and the concentration was higher than that in America, but lower than that in Beijing and Hangzhou in the references. More than80%of the total PAHs was Naphthalene. The results presented the distribution of PAHs in different indoor environments with different characteristics.
