In recent years, with the increasing improvement of the standard of living, people became more critical about their clothing, and pay more attention to their dressing. To select some clothes in department stores as before can no longer satisfy people’s demand for their comfort, they pursuit of a suit of clothes perfectly fit to their own size.As the rapid development of computer technology, the level of automization in clothes manufacturing industries has gained the progressing advancement. In America, Germany and some other developed countries, there is already the technology which tailors the clothes to one’s own requirement by computer. However in China, as a result of the historical reasons, the clothes industry is derdeveloping, the designing capacity is not yet strong, and the initiation of automization is much later than developed countries, all these factors have been constraining the production and quality of clothing enterprises. With the continuous development of the technology of CAD and CAM, its practical application in clothing manufacturing process has been more and more extensive. For such reasons, the design and production of clothes have come into the era of automization and efficiency. Nevertheless, nowadays in China, most kinds of approaches in measurement of human body have been based on the artificial leather rules. Of course, there must be various disadvantages in such kinds of approaches. For instance:high rate of subjective deviation, great labor intensity, the inconveniency to query data after measurement and the consumption of time etc.In view of the above analysis, how to efficiently measure the3D sizes of human body with the help of advanced digital technology has become the priority considered by many large-sized clothing enterprises. So the efficient3D measurement technology of human body based upon digital camera has become an inevitable trend of modern society. This thesis which is based upon the above background, has studied the measurement system on the basis of machine vision closely related to digital camera. The main operational procedures include the following five subjects:(1) Access to the image of human body. Two pictures of the front part and the side part of the person should be taken through common digital camera set on the self-made calibration board.(2) The pre-process of the image. The transformation from JPG image to BMP image and from colored image to gray image should be studied; the filtering and reduction of the noise of the image; the extracting of the edge and the thresholding of the image.(3) The calibration. The calibration system about the human body measurement on the basis of technology of machine vision should be considered, find the corresponding relationship between the points on the image and real spatial points. All of these are the preparations for the human body measurement.(4) The extracting of human image characteristics. The major research is the extraction on the basis of the common people’s characteristics and its algorithm.(5) The computation and fitting of the critical size concerning the making of clothes. The already obtained calibration data and the known human body main points should be taken to compute and fit the key sizes used for making clothes.Towards to the end, according to this measurement system, a set of software which is based on the machine vision on the basis of VC++6.0has already been developed and the relevant process will be taken at different times. This set of software has realized the integrated design of the various procedure modules about calibration, measurement, data analysis and saving. The interface of the software is cordial and the operation of it is simple.
