With the development and intensiveness of industry, major accidentssuch as fires and explosions occur from time to time and also causecasualties and property damage. Especially in petrochemical industry,pressure vessels are used in most links like production, storage,transportation and application. If a vessel which contains high-pressureliquid gas occurs failure, the flammable or toxicity will cause seriousdamage. Once the vessel becomes vulnerable to a certain degree, gravesafety incident such as BLEVE (Boiling Liquid Expand Vapor Explosion)will be more likely to happen. BLEVE is a physical explosion with highincidence and serious consequences. Therefore, it has a great significanceto make clear of the mechanism and characteristics in order to inhibit thedevelopment and reduce the losses caused by BLEVE.For the sake of the inadequacy and limitations of experimentalresearch, research was made by CFD method in this paper. NumericalSimulation was based on a two-dimensional physical model and asuitable mathematical model. Water and Saturated Steam were adopted as the service fluid. Characteristics of evolution progress and physicalparameters were analyzed so as to reveals the changing regularity andreasons. Furthermore, in order to analyze the influences of initialconditions on this progress, simulations under different conditions areperformed. Different temperature, liquid level and size of the opening areadopted as the initial conditions respectively.
