Ball mill is one of the key equipments on mineral processing which is simple, compact and reliable in structure. It has been widely used in Metallurgical Engineering, chenmical industry, ceramics, cement insustry, construction industry, electric utilities and national defense industry, etc... And the ball mill also has some critical defects, such as energy-hungry and high iron loss. Scholors both at home and abroad had made a vast amount of further researches in accordance with these shortcomings. The operating state is affected by the rotational speed, fll rate, ball/powder weight ratiom, ball diameter and other factors which are coupled with each other; as a result, there is no sigificant breakthrough in the respect of its theoretical research. For these reasons, the grouping method of orthogonal experiment design is applied in parametric study of ball mill in this paper; the working parameter of ball mill could be adjusted in a reasonable way in accordance with the data from discrete element numerical simulation which can improve the milling effect.Ball mill (?)600mrn×400mm is the research object in this thesis, and the grouping method is orthogonal experiment design. The experimental index is the power and impact energy of unit mass; the experimental factor is the ratio of the rotational speed, filler of medium, ball diameter to ball; three levels are selected to every fator. The orthogonal test of four factors at three different levels,L9(34),are applied to determine the grouping scheme. The discrete element model of ball mill established by EDEM, a kind of discrete element software, could make the analogue simulation, then the data of power and impact energy in the process of milling could be obtained.After the processing of simulation data with intuitive analysis, namely, extreme difference analysis and analysis of variance, the working parameters of ball mill are obtained, the rotational speed is90%, filler of medium is40%, the size of medium is50mm, ratio of ball0.6, the rotational speed and size of medium has a considerable influence on power and impact energy of unit mass.The research results in this paper provide references to the selection of working parameter of ball mill and the production of the ball mill.
