With the development of the automotive, energy, electrical and electronics industries, increasingly high requirements on rubber products performance used in various industrial fields are required. Hydrogenated nitrile rubber is more and more widely used in oilfield, automotive, machinery manufacturing and other industries due to its good heat resistance, chemical resistance, low temperature resistance and oil resistance. There are still many disadvantages such as long production process, high cost and high pollutions in solution method of hydrogenation which is today’s HNBR industrial preparation. Therefore, developing hydrazine hydrate catalytic hydrogenation method, which has advantages of mild conditions, simple equipment, safe process, has become the research focus of research personnel. This study is divided into three parts.Part one:The hydrogenation reaction of the nitrile rubber latex under ordinary pressure with selenium powder as catalyst, hydrazine hydrate and hydrogen peroxide as redox initiating system was studied. Firstly, the uniform design method and single regression analysis were used to determine the effect of the reaction conditions including reactants dosages, reaction temperatures and reaction times on the experimental results. Secondly, a single factor test was done with the factors of hydrazine hydrate dosages, selenium powder dosages, hydrogen peroxide dosages, gel inhibitor dosages reaction temperatures and reaction times. Impacts of various factors on the hydrogenation degrees of the product were discussed and the best reaction formula was confirmed.Part two:The kinetics of NBR latex hydrogenation with hydrazine hydrate/peroxide hydrogen/selenium catalytic hydrogenation reaction system was studied by calculating the initial rate constants. The reaction rate constants of the reaction system were obtained by initial reaction measurements of different reactants dosages (such as selenium, hydrazine hydrate, and hydrogen peroxide). Hydrogenation rate constants corresponding to various factors were obtained from the hydrogenation kinetic data. The kinetic equation of this reaction system between50-70℃and the reaction activation energy is derived.Part three:Gel situation of this catalytic hydrogenation method with hydrazine hydrate was studied. It was found that key material which leads to cross-linking in reaction product is not the single hydrazine hydrate or the single hydrogen peroxide but a joint force result with both the hydrazine hydrate and the hydrogen peroxide. The presence of selenium plays a facilitating role at the same time. Compared test experiments were also done to find out the effect of different anticoagulants, dropwise ways and reaction temperatures on thecross-linking situation.
