High surface activated carbon is a new carbon material with good Structure and function.It has developed porosity and huge specific surface area, and has supreme potential in supercapacitor, pressure swing adsorption, natural gas adsorption storage and so on. Now, mostdomestic preparation method of high surface activated carbon is chemical activation.However, the quality of the product is not satisfactory with this method, and its cost is so highthat cannot achieve mass production.This paper depended on10t/year high surface activated carbon pilot production line ofone company of Jilin. Took the petroleum coke as raw materials and KOH as activator, anddebugged the production of high surface activated carbon. The procedure mainly debuggedthe unit of pre-activation, activation, and product refining. The specific surface area ofproduct reached2753m~2/g with pore volume1.488cc/g, pore diameter2.162nm at reactiontemperature780℃and reaction time1hour and50minutes. The grain size of refined productwas above2000mesh and its maximum electric capacity was169.50F/g. The volumeadsorption of formed high surface activated carbon reached145v/v at the pressure of5MPa.All indices of product were up to standard. However, the production cost and operationenergy consumption were so high that cannot achieve mass production.Use the method of lowering the activation ratio to reduce the production cost. Allspecific surface area of samples were up to2200m~2/g at the reaction condition that the totalactivation ration was1:3and the activator KOH was added to reaction in twice, whichdemonstrated the viability of lowering the activation ratio.Use the method of surplus heat utilization to reduce the operation energy consumption.Water vapor of5MPa and0.2MPa were produced by waste heat of high temperature materialsand flue gas through steam boiler. The vapor of5MPa was used to heat up the system of pre-activation and the vapor of0.2MPa was used to dry the product, which saved electricity3.4×10~5kW.h.Finally,100t/year high surface activated carbon production plan was designed on thebase of reduction of activation ratio and surplus heat utilization. The cost of product reduced32000RMB/t on this plan.
