In the aluminum industry, the crucible, fluid-filled barrel, molds, fixtures for smelting, molding (casting) and hot dipping are always affected by the interaction of molten aluminumcorrosion and high temperature wear, that caused a series of failure problems such as moltenmetal pollution, corrosion perforation, sticking-welding, et al. The available test rig mostlycan not simulate the working condition of the material that withstand the corrosion and wearin molten aluminum simultaneously, the test results are useless and restrict the relevantresearch. To solve this problem, a high temperature test rig for corrsion-wear in molten metalhave been developed and used to study the interaction behavior of corrosion-wear of someoptimum seeking metal materials in molten aluminum, these optimum seeking materials werechosen according to the molten aluminum corrosion tests. The results are as follows:(1) A new high temperature test rig for corrsion-wear in molten metal with simplestructure and good maneuverability have been developed. It solved the existing problems ofthe available test rig, can simulate the interaction behavior of corrosion-wear of the materialin molten metal, can carry out the data acquisition of friction stably.(2) The corrosion resistance of different kinds of metal materials in molten aluminumwere studied acoording to the surface morphology, cross-section morphology and thecorrosion rates. The corrosion resistance from inferior to the superior order is QT350、Cr13、H13、Q235、high chromium cast iron、low alloy HT、HHD、HT300、T-4241、M2、W9、titanium、molybdenum、tungsten、niobium.(3) The frcition pair of the optimal seeking materials and96Al2O3were tested inroom-temperature air and750℃molten aluminum, the test results showed that: tungsten isthe most corrosion-wear resisitant material, H13which is widely applied in industry has theworst performance in the test condition. Abrasive wear happened in corrosion-wear tests andthe crack can be observed in corrosion-wear surface, corrosion and wear have the property ofcontemporaneity, alternation and synergism, the interaction behavior of corrosion and wear isthe main reason that the rapid increase of the material loss.
