Traditionally, chromate and phosphate were used for pre-treatment and corrosion control of metal surface chromate performs two major applications in corrosion control. The first is conversion sealing pretreatments for metals alloys of iron, aluminum, zinc, copper, and magnesium. The second application is as leach able inhibitive pigments in many primer and general coating formulations. The exact chromate solution composition and structure of the final conversion coating may vary between substrates, application method or even specific products, but traditionally, chromic acid (H2CrO4) is used as a rinse which reacts with and dissolves the surface and near surface metal layer. Subsequent reduction reactions precipitate Cr(OH)3on the surface as a coherent layer, with a certain amount of unreacted Cr6+still remaining within the film. This layer provides both adhesion and stability to subsequent coating systems applied on top of it.Today, environment protection is becoming more and more important, but chromate is poisonous and phosphate pollutes environment, so developing a "green" technology for metal pre-treatment and corrosion protection has become the focus of concern. Silicon compounds, especially organosilicon chemistries, have been the subject of extensive development for more than fifty years, producing commercial advances in polymeric and composite materials. organosilicon compounds often display enhanced properties including thermal endurance, chemical or moisture resistance, increased mechanical strength, and electrical performance over materials with a completely organic nature. The silane treatment is a new kind of metal surface treatment technique. Compared with the traditional chromate and phosphate treatment, organic silane treatment is friendly to environment. Currently, a more in-depth research was carried out in the protection mechanism, film-forming process and so on.First, in this paper, the structure, classification and corrosion protection mechanism of silane films were introduced. The application and research progress of protective organic silane films were reviewed. The prospect of organic silane treatment technique was put forward. Then, the preparations and modified of BTSPS has been researched on the surface of Aluminum alloy2A12. The results showed that the BTSPS film can greatly increase the corrosion resistance of materials, and its performance very close to chromate and phosphate treatment.
