Phenolic resin is used as an important binder in carbon composite refractories,whileglass-like carbon with inferior crystal lattice sequence and supernal inside surface are obtainedafter carbonization. The structure of pyrocarbon will affect oxidation resistance and mechanicalbehaviors of refractories directly. At present, composite phenolic resins composed withtransition metal compound have been obtained for in-situ producing micro-nano-reinforcementin the preparation of refractories aimed at improve the structure of pyrocarbon. While, transitionmetal compound can not be dispersed uniformly in phenolic resins, which will affect the overallproperties of refractories. Hence, dispersity of catalyst has been improved through preparingphenolic resins composed with metal organic complex synthesized. In addition, the compositephenolic resins with fumed silica has been prepared, which will be indirectly brought inrefractories uniformly to fill the pores, when the resins were used as binder. Specific researchesare as follows:Nickel organic complexes have been synthesized using1,10-phenanthroline anddimethylglyoxime as organic ligands. Nickel organic complexes were dispersed uniformly inphenolic resins through co-solvent method and we obtained homogeneous composite phenolicresins composed with nickel organic complexes. Compared with ordinary phenolic resin, theresidual carbon of composites and graphitization degree of pyrolytic carbon were increasedremarkablely. At the same time, there is a large amount of nano carbon structure been in-siteproduced in matrix of pyrolytic carbon from composite phenolic resins when phenolic resinswere heat-treated at higher than800℃under noble or reducing atmosphere. The content, size, micro morphology and structure of nano-carbon structure have influence relatively with organicligands and quantity addition of organic transition, temperature and atmosphere ofheat-treatment. When composite phenolic resins are applied to magnesia carbon refractories, themensurating modulus at ambient temperatures can be improved simultaneity. The uniform phenolic resins composed with fumed silica after surface modified through wetchemical route have been obtained. The effect of addition and modifying method on stabilityand dispersity of composite system were studied. Researches show that: The max quantityaddition of fumed silica is8%of the weight of ordinary phenolic resin.
