The coal-fired power plant was a large industrial enterprise. And its sound environment impact was serious because of running numerous equipments. Natural draft cooling tower was an important part of the thermal power plant. It was the main factors of affecting boundary noise, because of high source intensity, wide distribution, wide frequency band, and closing to the plant boundary. This paper had chosen the natural draft cooling tower of Huaneng Jinan Huangtai generation Co. L td as the research object.This paper introduced the working principle of natural draft cooling tower, analyzed its noise generation mechanism and propagation characteristics, measured its source intensity and environmental impact, and analyzed its spectrum and attenuation characteristics. This paper also introduced the characteristic and application of software SoundPLAN, and used SoundPLAN to simulate the noise impact of cooling tower. Then noise prediction model was perfected through compare between simulated data and measured data.This paper researched noise reduction principle of cooling tower noise barriers, and proposed noise reduction projects through analyzing the source intensity of cooling tower and the surrounding sensitive points. Then the optimal design project was proposed through stimulating by noise prediction model. And measure the noise reduction effect and compliance status of sensitive points after adopting noise barriers. Then noise reduction project was verified by the measured data. Finally the power plant passed environmental completion and acceptance.Through the research of this subject, sort out noise generation mechanism and propagation characteristics of cooling tower, and noise reduction principle of cooling tower noise barriers. The data of source intensity of cooling tower and noise reduction effect of noise barrier was collected to form more accurate noise prediction model. Generally speaking, this study was good to accumulate design experience of cooling tower noise barriers, and provide effective guidance and reference to future work.
