The oxidation reaction of toluene with air catalyzed by metalloporphyrin is akind of cascade reactions, and its intermediate products of phenyl alcohol andbenzaldehyde can be oxidated further. They can as well as react with the reagentsbecause of their high contents in the reaction. So it is necessary to consider the effectof the intermediate products on the oxidation reaction of toluene. In the article, theeffect of the intermediate products was studied and the quantitive analysis method ofthe products by GC was optimized. The main contents of the article were as follows:1) The quantitive analysis method of toluene, phenyl alcohol, benzaldehyde andbenzyl benzenecarboxylate was optimized. The retention time of the products werewithin6min, and the correlation coefficients of all the products were higher than0.999, the average recycling rations of all the products were between99.86%and100.33%and the RSD was less than5.0%. The method established was different fromLS analysis method and chemical titration method of determining the amount ofbenzoic acid, and it was efficient and accurate.2) Secondly, the influence of phenyl alcohol and benzaldehyde on the reactionwas studied. The results showed that when the amount of phenyl alcohol added wasless than0.4%, the conversion of toluene and the selectivity of alcohol and aldehydewere increased. And the selectivity of alcohol and aldehyde increased along with thebenzaldehyde added only when the yield of toluene reached above8%. Further, theadding of phenyl acid increased the conversion of toluene and the selectivity ofalcohol and aldehyde. The studies of the influence of phenyl alcohol, benzaldehydeand phenyl acid on the reaction were done using orthogonal experiments.3) The reason of the phenomenon described above was suggested that the phenylalcohol and benzaldehyde added would accelerate the Haber-Weiss cycling accordingto the mechanism suggested in literatures through the quantitive analysis ofPhCH2OOH, as the result, the the conversion of toluene and the selectivity of alcoholand aldehyde were increased as well as the rate of the reaction was accerlated.
