As an important fine chemical intermediates, Isophorone is an excellent solvent ofpolymer materials. The market demand of ISO is great because they are widely used invarious industries. A lot of procedures can be used to synthesize ISO. In this paper, acetone toproduce Isophorone using Gas-solid phase condensation is observed. Hydrotalcite catalystsare used for this reaction, Improving process flow and designing appropriate catalyst,Through the rational design of catalysts to improve the yield of the ISO.The Mg-Al-HTlc and Mg-Al-Zr-HTlc are prepared by lower than the saturatedprecipitation, Mg-Al composite oxides of composition and structure were derived from thecalcination of Mg-Al-LDHs. The characterization of Mg-Al-LDHs and Mg-Al compositeoxides were carried out by use of XRD, FT-IR, TG-DTA, SEM, CO2-TPD and BETtechniques. The samples not only have high purity, superior crystallinity, have significantlythe surface structure of “Sand—rose”, and the layered structures, characteristics ofhydrotalcite-like compounds. The results verify that the Mg-Al composite oxides calcinatiedat500℃for4h from LDHs prepared, have high specific surface area, and surface alkalistrength, but also possess porous structures of the catalytic reactions, The catalyticperformance of the Mg-Al composite oxides was determined through the condensationreaction of acetone to isophorone. The experimental results indicate that the Mg-Al compositeoxides as catalysts display a high activity and selectivity. The catalytic performance are evaluated in the reaction of Acetone to produceIsophorone using a differential fixed-bed reactor collocate with gas chromatography. Theresults of synthesizing ISO show that, the synthetic conditions are the major parameters in thereaction. Better performance conditions are as follows, constant pH for9.5-10.5, reactiontemperature for70℃and aging for48h. The superior process conditions for the reaction areas follows, the temperature is300℃, space velocity is3.5h-1, N2flow rate as10ml/min. Inthis way, the yield of ISO is up to17.94%. The catalyst was reused four times still have abetter catalytic activity.
