The cross coupling reactions catalyzed using transition metal catalysts are essential organic reactions for constructing C-N, C-O, C-S bonds, which is widely used in pharmaceutical and material sciences. In recent years, the cross coupling reactions catalyzed by copper catalysts have become a hot research topic in the field of organic synthesis at home and abroad. The C-N and C-O cross coupling reactions catalyzed by CuCl2/Al2O3catalyst have been studied in this essay.Firstly, the development of the C-N and C-O cross coupling reactions in the copper-catalyzed systems has beeen introduced in detail on the basis of enormous references.The methods for the preparation of aryl ethers and N-arylheterocycles by the C-N and C-O cross coupling reactions in presence of CuCl2/Al2O3catalyst have been studied. The experimental results showed that the CuCl2/Al2O3catalyst has good catalytic activity in the C-N and C-O cross coupling reactions. And, the catalytic activity almost remaines unchanged after five times reuses for the reaction of iodobenzene with phenol, as well as the reaction of iodobenzene with imidazole. It is suggested that the reusability of the catalyst system is very good. However, the CuCl2/Al2O3catalyst can be used in the C-N cross coupling reactions of various aryl halides with nitrogen-containing heterocycles as well as the C-O cross coupling reactions of various aryl halides with phenolic compounds.
