The catalyst of vapour phase hydrogenation of butyraldehyde to butanol is studied. The catalyst is prepared by co-precipitation method. The effects of Cu/Zn ratio and Al2O3content on the catalytic activity and the preparation conditions are studied. The type of precipitant, feeding methods, precipitation temperature.the value of pH. calcination temperature are investigated. Catalysts are characterized by determination of BET surface area, XRD and SEM. The activity of catalyst is determined at the process conditions. On the basis of laboratory studies, the catalysts are enlarged to preparation of ton level. Expanded sample is used in the industrial side-stream test. After side-stream test, the catalysts are corresponding improvements. Improved catalyst is used in plant. Industrial application results show that developed catalyst has good activity and selectivity. The performance of developed catalyst reaches or exceed world-wide advanced level, meet the production needs of the device, and achieves the localization of the catalyst.
