Magnesium, lithium, aluminium metals and their alloys are the ultra light alloy materialwhich are used more and more widely, especially in aerospace, transportation, light industryand construction, communication, electronic industries. In this paper, Mg-Li-Al-Pr alloyswere prepared by electrolysis in molten salts. And, the electrochemical process of the Pr(Ⅲ)rare earth ions and electrochemical formation mechanism of alloy were investigated in moltensalt system on the Mo electrode and the Al electrode. The electrochemical process of the Pr(Ⅲ) rare earth ions were investigated inLiCl–KCl–PrCl3molten salt system on the Mo electrode and the Al electrode. First, theelectrochemical process and reversibility properties of the Pr(Ⅲ) rare earth ions wereinvestigated in LiCl–KCl–PrCl3molten salt system on the Mo electrode by cyclicvoltammetry and open timing potential method. The transfer electronic number, diffusioncoefficient and activation energy of values of Pr(Ⅲ) in the melts were also determined. Cyclicvoltammetry, square wave voltammetry were used to study the the electrochemical process ofPr(Ⅲ) on the Al electrode. The alloys were prepared via the constant potential electrolysis. The microstructure of Al-Pr alloy sample was characterized by X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy. Through the comparison, the different electrochemical reactionprocess of Pr(Ⅲ) was concluded on the Mo electrode and Al electrode in LiCl-KCl-PrCl3system.The electrochemical process of the Pr(Ⅲ) rare earth ions were investigated inLiCl-KCl-MgCl2-PrCl3molten salt system on the Mo electrode and the Al electrode. Theelectrochemical process of the Pr(Ⅲ) was investigated in LiCl-KCl-MgCl2-PrCl3molten saltsystem on the Mo electrode by cyclic voltammetry, square wave voltammetry and timingpotential method. The phase composition and microstructure characteristics of alloys whichwere prepared via the constant potential electrolysis were observed. At the same time, Mg-Li-Al-Pr alloys was prepared byco-electrodeposition using graphite as anode and molybdenum as cathode in moltenLiCl-KCl-MgCl2-AlCl3–PrCl3system. The Preparation Process of Mg-Li-Al-Pr alloys werestudied by considering the influence of the alloy component and the current efficiency oncurrent density, temperature and electrolytic time.Take the components and current efficiencyinto consideration, the electrolytic process parameters were obtained which is, current density,5.4A/cm2; electrolysis temperature,700℃; electrolysis time,4h.
