Based on1,3,5,7,9,11,13-heptaphenyl-15-chloropropyl polyhendral oligomericsilsesquioxane(POSS-Cl) and octa (γ-chloropropyl) POSS(T8POSS-Cl), differenttopological structural POSS/polymers (Linear-shaped POSS/PS, Dendritic-shapedPOSS/PS-b-(PS)2and Star-shaped T8POSS/PS-b-(PS)2composite) were synthesizedby atom transfer radical polymerization(ATRP). The specific studies include thefollowing aspects:1. The research progress of POSS, including its structure and synthesis, had beensummarized in this paper. And the research situation of POSS/polymer composite wasreviewed. In this article, we had mainly paid attention to the synthesis of thetopological structural polymer which was modified by POSS.2. Linear-shaped POSS/PS composite had been synthesized by ATRP using1,3,5,7,9,11,13-heptaphenyl-15-chloropropyl polyhendral oligomeric silsesquioxane as ainitiatior. Then linear-shaped POSS/PS-b-PMMA composite had been synthesizedusing linear-shaped POSS/PS as a macroinitiator. The structure of the macroinitiatorhad been characterized by FTIR and1H-NMR. TGA results showed that the Tg valueof linear-shaped POSS/PS-Cl composite increases to357oC which is much higherthan that of the pure PS.3. The macroinitiator POSS/PS-(Br)2had been prepared using liner-shapedPOSS/PS as the substrate. Then dendritic-shaped POSS/PS-b-(PS)2composite hadbeen synthesized by ATRP using POSS/PS-(Br)2as a macroinitiator. The structure ofthe macroinitiator had been characterized by FTIR and1H-NMR. TGA results showedthat the Tg value of dendritic-shaped POSS/PS-b-(PS)2composite increases to372oCwhich is much higher than the liner-shaped POSS/PS composite.4. Star-shaped T8POSS/PS composite had been synthesized by ATRP using octa(γ-chloropropyl) POSS as a initiatior. Then T8POSS/PS-(Br)2had been synthesizedusing star-shaped T8POSS/PS as the substrate. Then star-shaped T8POSS/PS-b-(PS)2composite had been synthesized by ATRP using T8POSS/PS-(Br)2as a macroinitiator.The structure of the macroinitiator had been characterized by FTIR and1H-NMR.TGA results showed that the Tg value of star-shaped T8POSS/PS-b-(PS)2composite ismuch higher than star-shaped T8POSS/PS. 5. The effect of different topological structures on the thermal performance ofcomposite materials using polystyrene as the polymer matrix had been researched.
