Continuous drive friction welding is an advanced solid state joiningprocess,which has the characters of excellent efficiency and energy-saving.It has beenpretty extensively used in many industry fields,such as automobile、aerospace、automobile and energy,as a result of the features of high automation、steady quality ofwelding joints and so on.However the friction welded joint quality not only closelyrelated to the temperature field, upset pressure, upset pressure time, the welded heattreatment process, also was affected by the welding material, shape and geometricsize.of sample This article focus on the large engineering mechanical piston rod as theresearch object,conduct a series of numerical simulation and experimental study, andprovides a valuable reference for the piston rod continuous driven friction welding,which have important practical application value.This paper is mainly simulate and analysis the temperature distribution andcharacteristics of continuous driven friction welding using ANSYS.The temperaturefield in continuous drive friction welding was tested by infrared thermometer on afriction welding machine.The temperature field obtained from experiments wasconsistent with the result of simulation.By the orthogonal experiment and the range method, obtained excellentcombination of levels of the piston rod continuous drive friction welding parametersas follows: the main friction pressure of7.6MPa, the main friction time of19s, upsetpressure of14.3MPa, upset pressure time of16s,which are validate byexperiments.The field obtained f rom experiments is consistent with that of thecaculated result.By tensile test,observation of the microstructure, fracture SEM and other means,analysised the impact on the quality of quenching and tempering treatment, excellentcombination of levels of heat treatment as follows: the quenching temperature of870°C, and quenching holding time of0min, tempering temperature of520°C, temperingholding time of140min, and ultimately determine the piston rod continuous drivefriction welding process parameters and heat treatment processes.
