In recent years, with rapid development of metallurgic industry and daily life.Stainless steel is used with great amount. Keeping the same in corrosion resistance, toreduce the cost of stainless steel has become one of the main reseach directions inmodern metallurgy. Based on the background, the200series stainless steel containinghigh manganese and nitrogen arised, it apply to various fields. China yields the rareearth element greatly and rare earth elements improve comprehensive performance bycombining with other alloy element to purify composition and change the compositionand shape of inclusions, rare earth elements have low biological toxicity, sterilizationand bacteriostasis function for bacteria. But the role of rare earth elements in stainlesssteel is relatively rare. This study selects the201stainless steel which is representative in200seriesstainless steel, and the cerium elements in rare earth elements. This experiment studiesthe corrosion resistance influence of201stainless steel containing cerium element byanalysing the electrochemical polarization curve and the exchange impedance; Throughthe thin sulfuric acid5%boil method, the tendency of intergranular corrosion ismeasured. Through the inspection of bacteria’s growth curve in antibacterial materials, gets the antibacterial law. Based on all collected data, the principle of antimicrobial inthe various stainless steel is tested. By the analysis of experimental results, we can makea summary: the rare earth elements can have fine grains size along with increase ofcerium in the microstructure. The more cerium comtent, the more obviously refinedphenomenon of the organization. the distribution of the inclusions gets moreconcentrated, and tendency that the shape of inclusions gets round is more obvious. Forcorrosion resistance, the increase in cerium with specimen comes along with theincrease of corrosion resistance as the content of cerium in0%to0.012%, but with rareearth content increase to0.8%, corrosion resistance gets down. For intergranularcorrosion tendency l, with the increase of the content of rare earth, intergranularcorrosion resistant is strengthened. When rare earth element content is low in thespecimen, their antibacterial effect is not obvious, but with the increase of the content of rare earth, its significant antibacterial effect gradually. And in the growth process ofbactercia, the rare earth element cerium influences the stationary phase mostly.
