Schiff base derivatives are most important organic compounds using designingbifunctional amphiphile and organized assembly system. Schiff base derivatives play animportant role in biological system and functional material fields. Based on the previouswork, we designed and characterized two aromatic schiff base derivatives and thecorresponding metal complexes with different substituted groups and four novelL-glutamate-based Schiff base compounds with glutamate segment and differentsubstituted groups. And we studied the gelation behaviors of binary trigonal acids andbipyridine derivatives mixtures in various organic solvents and L-glutamate aminederivatives and acids in different solvents. The research for four novel L-glutamate-based Schiff base compounds showshydrogen bonds between C=N and hydroxyl. Alkyl chains in molecular structures affectUV spectra. These results indicate that the the special properties of Schiff base compoundscould be regulated through the design of molecular structures and substituted groups. The research for two aromatic schiff base derivatives and the corresponding metalcomplexes indicate that the nitrogen atom in imino group and oxygen atom in phenolichydroxyl group participate in coordinating with transition metal ion in different bridgedmode. Different coordination modes between metal ions and ligands can affect UV spectra. The thermal stability of metal complexes had been obviously superior to that of theligands. The research for gelation behaviors shows that the molecular shapes and substituentgroups in these compounds play an important role in the gelation behavior of thecompounds. Bipyridine derivatives have also play an important role in changing thegelation behaviors and assembly states. The rate of water and ethanol also affect thegelation behavior of mixture compounds. The results indicate that there are hydrogenbonds and vander Waals interaction in new binary mixed organogelators between amineand carboxyl. Solvent is trapped into three-dimensional (3D) networks by hydrogen bondsand vander Waals interaction.
