Magnesium and magnesium alloy has a series of advantages, such as high specificstrength and stiffness, outstanding electromagnetic shielding performance, strong antivibration and radiation ability, easy cutting processing and recycling. It is the third class ofmetallic structural materials following steel and aluminum alloy. It is called as thetwenty-first Century green engineering material. However, the standard electrode potentialof pure magnesium is low,(-2.37V), so the corrosion of magnesium alloy is the mainproblems which restrict its wide field of engineering application.In this paper, pure aluminum coating and nickel-aluminium alloy coating was madedon AZ31B magnesium alloy through arc spraying technique. First, I determined the arcspraying parameters and then got a series of coating through different combinations of arcspraying parameters. Then Study on the coating through a series of analysis andresearch,such as appearance quality and organizational structure research, contact layerstructure, mechanical properties and anticorrosion research. So determined the optimumcombination of parameters of the arc spraying of pure aluminum coating andnickel-aluminium alloy coating. For the pure aluminum coating,the spraying voltageshould be at27.9V, the spraying distance should be at150mm, the spraying angle shouldbe at90°and the atomizing air pressure should between0.6MPa and0.8MPa; For thenickel-aluminium alloy coating, the spraying voltage should be at35.8V, the sprayingdistance should be at150mm, the spraying angle should be at90°and the atomizing airpressure should between0.6MPa and0.8MPa. Finally studied the different heat treatmentprocesses on the arc spraying coating quality. The various performances of the twocoatings were analyzed, found that the various performances of arc sprayingnickel-aluminium alloy coating are superior to the arc spraying pure aluminum coating.
