Fatigue failure is the most main failure of metal welding structure, so theaccuracy of the evaluation of fatigue closely relates to the production safety and lifesafety. Crack damage accidents are still often occur in use process of the cranestructure which the fatigue strength were checked based on nominal stress method,and most of the crack from the above check position. They need to have a moreaccurate calculation method to supplement the existing crane fatigue assessmentmethods. As a local fatigue analysis method according to the welded structure weld,hot spot stress method has been widely used in the ocean engineering structure. But inthe crane metal structure fatigue evaluation, hot spot stress method have not yet beenstudied or application. This paper based on the hot spot stress method, study thefatigue assessment methods of crane metal structure.First of all, this paper discussed comparisons hot stress method and nominalstress method and the applicable scope of quality according to the research andliterature information, and analyzes the influential factors of metal structure fatiguelife. Combined with parametric finite element modeling, this paper studied the hotspot stress distribution of the crane’s typical welded metal structure, and explored therelationship between hot spot stress concentration factor and the structure.Secondly, this paper based on the research of crane’s typical welding structure,probing more accurate and effective methods of crane metal structure’s fatigue lifeevaluation, searching the system application route of crane metal structure’s fatiguelife evaluation method which based on the hot spot stress method and nominal stress.Finally, based on the examples and field data, using the finite element simulationtechnology, evaluation the fatigue life of the crane metal structure, and confirmed thehot spot stress method and the hot spot stress concentration factor’s reliability andvalidity in crane metal structure fatigue evaluation.
