A metal cutting bandsaw machine is mainly uesed for cuting metal material. Usually, sawing is first step of metal cutting processing and also an essential component in mechnical manufacturing industry. At present, there is a big gap in bandsaw machine products between domestic and foreign enterprises due to the lack of key techniques and advanced design methods. In view of the current problems in bandsaw machine design, this paper focus on some key points of bandsaw machine design. The study could provide theoretical foundation for metal cutting bandsaw machine design, which is signifcant to improving design quality.Calculation of cuting force model and analysis of mechanics in cutting progess are the basis of bandsaw machine design. Vibration is also one of key problems in cutting progress. Otherwise, the reliability and optimization are very impotant for improving design quality of bandsaw machine. In order to solve these problems, this paper study as the follows:According to the study of Bandsaw machine system function modal, Bandsaw machine system can be devided into several functional modules, including cutting modules, feeding modules, sending modules, et al. Some of the function modules could be coupled. Bandsaw blade is the core component of bandsaw machine. The analysis of the type and geometry parameters of blade is given by the standards.A uniform cutting force mathematical model is proposed. In order to study the relationship between cutting force and cutting parameters, a cutting force testing system is designed and cutting force test is conducted. Accordingly, successfully to get cutting force formulation based on the theory of minimum dissipation of energy and experiments.With the study of cutting progress mechanical model, a mechanical model of cutting modules is established. The mechanical model under critical state is proved right though experiment. Considering the characteristics of instantaneous friction coefficient, the relationship of mechanical parameters are derived under normal working state based the results under critical state. The stress of saw blade is analysed under the studying of mechanical model.A simulation of saw blade’s pitch is conducted based on the result of mechanicl analysis. The modal and harmonic response analysis is simulated for a kind of bandsaw machine. Modal simulation shows the low modal frequencies of bandsaw machine is in the range of external excitation frequency, which may cause great vibration. Harmonic response analysis shows that the maximum displacement of the driving wheel is about0.2mm, which means vibration is too large and the resistance performance of vibration is not good. Finally, considering the results of the mechanical model and dynamic characteristics, a mathematical model of reliability optimization is proposed and the optimized result is got. Compared with the original design, the result of reliability optimization could improve the performances of bandsaw machine notably.
