With the progress of science and technology, mechanical properties, electric properties, arc resistance, thermal conductivity and flame retardant performance of the printed circuit laminate have been proposed to higher requirements. Improving the performance of the resin matrix becomes a key factor in developing high performance laminate. Though there are many resin matrix of laminate they have different defects. The current tend for developing new printed circuit laminate with excellent comprehensive performance is using high-performance resin as matrix to fabricate the laminate with low dielectric, high Tg, excellent mechanical properties, low water absorption as well as environmental protection.Poly(aryl ether)s containing phthalazinone moieties (PPAEs) are a high-performance thermoplastics with heat-resistant and soluble, excellent comprehensive performance. Thus, PPAEs are very ideal resin matrice for high-performance laminate. In this thesis, three kinds of laminate with PPAEs as matrix reinforced by alkali-free glass fiber cloth were prepared by hot pressing molding. Each series of laminate’s molding process was optimizationed. The effects of the resin content on flexural strength (25℃,150℃) and water absorption of PPESK/PPENK laminate, PPBES laminate and PPBES/PPENK laminate were studied systematically. Their flame retardant property, dielectric properties and interfacial properties were tested. The results are as follows. For the PPESK/PPENK laminate, PPBES laminate and PPBES/PPENK laminate, when the resin content is50%,32.8%and35.4%, respectively, the value of flexural strength on25℃is up to maximum, respectively. For the PPBES/PPENK laminate, its flexural strength on25℃is602.3MPa, and the retention rate of flexural strength on150℃is95.7%, which is better than BEP laminate. Their absorption are increased with the decrease of the resin content and reach equilibrium finally, which PPBES/PPENK laminate is up to as low as0.243%. They possess excellent dielectric properties under1MHz. PPBES laminate has3.49of the dielectric constant and6.0×1014Ω·cm of volume resistivity at DC500V, respectively. Their flame retardant properties are UL94-V0. SEM shows that the interfacial strength of laminates containing PPBES are better than PPESK/PPENK laminate.
