To ensure the environment quality of the water area where the Dalian offshore airport was located, on the basis of the MIKE21flow model FM module, a numerical model was built for the calculation of the hydrodynamic and pollutant transport by using unstructured mesh. Verification of the tidal level and the current between simulated and observed data showed that the mathematical model was with high reliability, and it can be used to the calculation of pollutant transport.The calculation of the tide and the pollutant transport changes caused by the construction of airport at feature points in Jinzhou bay showed that Dalian offshore airport had a great impact on the water environment of the Jinzhou bay, which leaded to the decrease of current speed in the area between artificial island-construction access-land and the area close to the construction access, in opposite, current speed in the area between artificial island and the land increased. The pollutant concentration was higher than nature state.The physical self-purification, half-exchange period, diffusion trajectory of pollutant in local area, remaining time of tracer particles in local area and weighted average speed of current at the opening of construction access were taken as evaluation criteria to study the optimization of construction access opening-size. The results showed that each criterion leaded to different optimal opening-size construction access. According to simulated results, an optimal construction access opening-size, which is2/3of the total length, is recommended after comprehensive comparison.An improvement scheme of layout of the airport island has been put forward, and by comparing of the tidal and pollutant concentration distribution, we can come to the conclusion that the water environment in Jinzhou bay become better than the original scheme, which due to the structure optimization of airport.
