1. Ruthenium-Catalyzed Green Oxidation of Alkenes at Room TemperatureThe catalytic oxidation of alkenes to ɑ-diketones is unprecedented. Thecombination of [Ru(cymene)Cl2]2, Bu4NI and TBHP affords an efficient catalyticsystem for the green oxidation of a variety of alkenes, giving the corresponding1,2-diketones in high to excellent yields. This methodology is highly functional grouptolerant, is practically convenient, requires no additional ligand, and operates under mildconditions with short reaction times. Based upon experimental observations, a plausiblemechanism, involving cis-dioxoruthenium complex,is proposed.2. NaI-Catalyzed Direct Condensation of Sulfonamide and FormamideA new N-sulfonyl formamidine synthesis was developed via NaI-catalyzed directcondensation of sulfonamide and formamide. The green methodology is featured byhigh atom economy, easily available starting materials, the lack of need for atransition-metal catalyst, no requirement of hazardous reagent, operational simplicity, and good tolerance with diverse functional groups. Mechanistic studies suggest that theprotocol proceeds based upon in situ generated TsN。NaI.
