In this paper, microcapsules of imitation herbal ingredients(oleic acid, β—pinene,β—sitosterin) were prepared with β—cyclodextrin molecule embedding method andgelatin—gum arabic complex coacervation. The influence of preparation technologyon particle size and embedding rate was discussed. The surface morphology of themicrocapsules was observed by the microscope and the scanning electron microscope, and microcapsules were characterized by infrared spectrum. It was shown that the major influential elements of molecule embedding methodwere the volume ratio between ethanol and water, and the ratio of core and wallmaterial, and the major influential elements of complex coacervation was theconcertration of wall materials, the ratio of core and wall material and the pH value ofcoacervation. The optimal technology of microcapsules by embedding method foroleic acid was that the volume ratio between ethanol and water was1:2, the ratio ofcore and wall material was1:10, the preparation temperature was60℃, thepreparation time was3.5h, the stirring rate was1000r/min. Under the optimalcondition: the embedding rate was49.35%, the content of the core material was8.83%, the mean particle size was25.493μm, and the maximum sustained releasereached77.63%. The technology of microcapsules by complex coacervation for oleicacid was that the concertration of wall materials was3%, the ratio of core and wallmaterial was1:1, the preparation time of coacervation was1h, the preparationtemperature of coacervation was50℃, the pH value was4.2, the ratio of gelatin andglutaraldehyde was1:4. The surface morphology of the microcapsules was good, themean particle size was79μm, the embedding rate was47.85%, the content of the corematerial was41.46%, and the maximum sustained release reached79.04%.The content of the core material of microcapsules by complex coacervation foroleic acid was greater than the microcapsules by embedding method. The content ofthe core material and the embedding rate was more or less the same. The meanparticle size of the microcapsules by embedding method was smaller, and it waseasier to operate. The microcapsules by embedding method for oleic acid and the microcapsules bycomplex coacervation were finished into the cotton fabric by padding. It wasmeasured by the oil content, whiteness, breathable, moisture permeability of thecotton fabric to evaluate the effect of finishing. It was shown that when the fabric reached the same oil content, the amount ofmicrocapsules by complex coacervation was less than1/3of the molecular embeddingmethod for oleic acid, but complex coacervation had a certain influence on thewhiteness of the fabric.
