Naphthopyran As The Ultraviolet Absorbent Of PEO

Naphthopyran derivative is a kind of photochromic compound with excellentperformance. In this paper, we design and synthesis two kinds of naphthopyranderivative which have significant absorption in the UV region. Use the way ofsolution mixing, we got the compound of naphthopyran and PEO as the sample.PEO can be easily degraded by the UV irradiation,. By the UV irradiation, the C-Obond of naphthopyran will have the reaction of ring-open, and the C-O bond of PEOcan be broken as the beginning of photooxidaton degradation. In the UV agingchamber, the samples are irradiated with UV radiation. Then we researched thedegradation process of PEO, that had irradiated by UV radiation, with IR,temperature of glass transition and thermal degradation.We found that the PEO should appear characteristic peaks in IR spectra after thedegradation process. But now the emergence time of the peaks were delayed whenPEO containing naphthopyran derivative were irradiated by UV radiation. And theTg of PEO was not changed obviously. Naphthopyran derivative can prevent thedegradation of PEO which were induced by UV irradiation. And the effectivenesswill become better with the naphthopyran content increases. PEO will be morestability with the naphthopyran derivative as the UV absorber.In this paper, monomers and polymers were described by means of infraredabsorption spectra,1H NMR, UV-visible absorption spectra, thermogravimeticanalysis, differential scanning calorimeter.
