Plasticizer is an essential additive for preparation soft polyvinyl chloride (PVC), so far phthalate esters plasticizer with potential hazard is widely used. Epoxidized soybean oil with high epoxy value (HESO), prepared by epoxidation of natural soybean oil, is a kind of environmental protection PVC plasticizer. HESO is superior to existing ordinary epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) in performance, and can replace phthalate esters plasticizer.In this paper, through screening and optimization of HESO preparation process, the optimum process of two-step method was determined, and the effects of reaction time, reaction temperature, formic acid dosage, hydrogen peroxide dosage on the preparation of HESO were investigated. The experiment results showed that through optimization of two-step process, epoxy value and iodine value of prepared HESO were6.8g/100g ESO and3.0g/100g ESO respectively.On the above basis, the catalytic reaction kinetic model was established. The derived epoxidation reaction activation and ring-opening reaction activation energy were35.96KJ/mol and53.84KJ/mol respectively, while corresponding reaction rate constant ke and kg were0.1215L/(mol·h) and0.0679L/(mol·h) respectively. The results revealed that selectivity and conversion of the reaction were the main influence factors for HESO performance.Finally, the established catalytic reaction kinetic model was applied on the research on engineering scale-up rules. The results showed that epoxy value of prepared HESO can reached6.8g/100g ESO under reaction magnification of4times,10times and20times.
