Non-renewable energy is depleting, such as oil, natural gas and coal. Biofuel research represented by cellulose fuel has attracted more and more people’s attention. Cellulose straw with rich resource and low price is thought to be an ideal raw material for biofuel production. But the technology of transform cellulose into fuel is not mature and remains many difficult technical problems to solve. Cellulose pretreatment is one of these technical problems.Cellulose raw material can be used to produce biofuel, but its structure hampers the accessibility of cellulose enzyme. The enzyme rate of untreated raw material is below10%. So it is necessary to pretreat the raw material effectively. This article has compared a variety of cellulose pretreatments and considers that the steam explosion is an effective cellulose pretreatment, which has low pollution and can significantly improve the conversion rate of cellulose. At present, some companies has used steam explosion into cellulose biofuel field and obtained some good results. This article will delve into the steam explosion technology in cellulose pretreatment and design an efficient continuous cellulose pretreatment equipment, which uses kenaf as raw material.
