The study of producing CHDM is just in the initial stage in China and the scale of producing CHDM is small. Based on the laboratory experiment achievements and comprehensive and deep analysis on the technical route of producing CHDM, this essay conduct study on two-step hydrogenation process for producing CHDM from dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) with several aspects included. Chemical reaction kinetics for preparation of DMCD from DMT in the first hydrogenation step with Ru/Al2O3as catalyst was deduced. The material and energy balance data as well as equipment calculation data of production unit were achieved with Aspen Plus process simulation. Equipment list, process flow diagram (PFD) and piping and instrument diagram (PID) were generated. Equipment layout has been finished with the assistance of Plant Design Management System (PDMS).
