More and more attention has been made to Carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite material.Surface treatment should be performed before the preparation of composite materialsbecause of its poor wettability performance. The effect of surface adhesive removal,atmospheric phase oxidation, liquid-phase oxidation and silane coupling agent coating onthe performance of carbon fiber were studied in this paper. The results showed that carbonfiber surface becomes obviously smooth after cleaning. FTIR results showed thatatmospheric phase oxidation and liquid phase oxidation increased polar functional groupsexsiting in the surface of carbon fiber. The SEM photos showed that surface of carbon fiberappeared obvious groove after oxidization,which was beneficial to interface bondingbetween carbon fiber and epoxy resin matrix.Carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite material was prepared based on the surfacemodification of carbon fiber.The effect of carbon fiber length, volume, oxidation conditionson the mechanical and microstructure of composite material was studied in this paper. Theresults showed that the optimal length of carbon fiber was5mm and the volume of whichwas1.0%. it will affect the dispersity of carbon fiber if exceed this value and thus decreasethe properties of composite material. The reinforced effect is better when carbon fibremodified by liquid-phase oxidation than that modified by gas phase oxidation treatmentand that modified by liquid-phase oxidation and silane coupling agent has the best effect.When the dosage of carbon fiber content was1.0%, the tensile strength, impact strengthand the elongation at break of the epoxy resin composite material increased by59.7%,53.3%,50.0%respectively. The microstructure photoes showed that the surfacemodification of carbon fiber by liquid phase oxidation and silane coupling agent canimprove the interface bonding strength between carbon fiber and epoxy resin matrix.The effect of diatomite on the properties of epoxy resin composite material was alsostudied in this paper.Experimental results showed that the pretreatment of diatomite bysilane coupling agent can obviously improve its dispersion in the epoxy resin matrix. Whenthe dosage of modified diatomite was6%, the tensile strength, impact strength, the elongation at break of the composites increased by16.8%,18.2%,17.8%respectively. Asfar as the mechanism of diatomite reinforced epoxy resin composite is concerned, fewepoxy resin can enter the micropore of diatomite. Microcracks in composite materials isproduced under the action of external force, when the microcrack expand, epoxy matrixexsiting in microporous of diatomite will be drawn from diatomite and thus consume someexternal force. Thereby diatomite can enhance mechanical properties of epoxy resincomposites.
