The ring-shaped component researched in the paper is widely used in areas of aviation, aerospace and navigation, etc. The ring-shaped component is small in size and high in assembly precision. The present assembly system cannot meet the assembly precision and the efficiency simultaneously. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an automatic precision assembly system for ring-shaped parts to meet the practical engineering requirement.Based on the precision assembly technical requirements of the ring-shaped parts, the double-work precision assembly system was built. The assembly system is composed of two precision assembly equipments that can work separately. The assembly strategy of the two equipments was planned so that the worker can operate them in order, which can improve the efficiency. The functional modules of the assembly equipment were the assembling and removing module, the mold fixing and ring scale division module, the precision guiding module, the computer control module and the electrical control module, which were introduced in detail in the paper.The precision assembly of the ring-shaped parts researched in the paper falls into the category of peg-in-hole interference assembly. Based on the fourth strength theory of material, the magnitude of interference and the dimensional tolerance was worked out by theoretical calculation and FEM simulative analysis. In order to improve the assembly precision of the ring-shaped parts, some methods were proposed to improve the desired assembly pose.The debugging software was programmed based on the master-slave control mode of LabVIEW. The software was introduced in the paper. The system was tested to optimize the control strategy and to improve the performance of the assembly system with the software. The accuracy of the assembled ring-parts was measured by the OPG full-automatic optical image3-D measuring machine.The experimental result shows that the ring-parts assembly system designed and built in the paper can meet engineering requirements of the practical use.
