The organic intercalation compound of kaolinite, which is a kind of1:1lamellar silicates, not only includes activity of functional groups of the intercalated organic molecules, but also maintains the physical and chemical properties of the clay minerals. As a novel nanocomposite material, kaolinite intercalation compound has potential applications in high-performance polymer matrix composite materials, electrochemical functional materials, nonlinear optical materials and drug delivery materials. However, there is only a small number of polar molecules can be intercalated into the layer space of kaolinite, therefore it is necessary to prepare the intercalation precursors, and the required intercalation compounds can be prepared by the replacement of precursor molecules. The hydrated kaolinite is considered as a good intercalation precursors due to its good intercalation ability and environment-friendly property.Amino acid is a class of small molecules with special physiological functions but unstable. In order to ensure the pharmacodynamics, it needs to be combined with a suitable delivery system. In this study, hydrated kaolinite was used as an intercalation precursor, and glycine was selected as the guest molecules considering the impact factors of replacement process. The glycine/kaolinite intercalation compound was prepared, in which process the factors affecting the intercalation process were discussed in order to optimize the preparation conditions. The possible positional distribution of glycine molecules in the interlayer was analyzed. Furthermore, the bonding model between the interlayers and the glycine molecules was studied. The intercalation reaction was a secondary reaction based on the the analysis of the intercalation process and the activation energy of the reaction was calculated.As known, the hemostatic capacity of kaolinite is equivalent to QuickClot, but their hemostatic mechanisms are quite different. Meanwile, nano-silver has antibacterial properties; therefore, the compound combined with kaolinite and nano-silver would perform both hemostatic and antibacterial properties. The hydrated kaolinite was used as the supporter for the nano-silver, thus the Ag+could be directly reduced on the surface hydrated kaolinite. The size distribution of nano-silver particles in nano-silver/hydrated kaolinite composite was2-25nm.
