The short arc machining technology is a step-by-step development of the past20years, it has had to overcome many difficulties and has made great achievements.However, the mechanism of this technology is still in the research stage ofdevelopment, so a lot of work needs to be done in the analysis of the processingmechanism.This paper has studed and analysised the theory about mechanism loss of CNCshort arc Machine tool electrode, and found some programs to Compensate it’s loss.By the result of study for every program, we finally use a Grid scale displacementsensor and a Pulse counter to get the data of mechanism loss. To deal with the data,we use Single factor test and Orthogonal test to study the factor of short arc Machinetool electrode mechanism loss. Through drawing the forms and figures of the test data,we could find out whitch factor is the main factor to the tool electrode mechanism loss.After the main reason is found, we could get a program to Compensate it’s loss, weuse an on-line tool electrode Compensate. Before Compensate, the main controlsoftware of short arc Machine must Optimal Designed, we should add some graphicuser interface and Function modules to make the program could achieve Short arcprocessing tool electrode line detection and line loss compensation. The purpose ofcompensation is to improve the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness of themachined workpiece, workpiece overall processing quality and processing efficiencywhile reducing operating worker’s strength.The short arc means that the pulse width is measured in milliseconds (ms), butthe peak of current is large (100-5000A), and it is a range between the spark and arcdischarge state. It is different from stable arc in special processing industry andcontinuous arc in welding arc. The discharge point of stable arc does not transfer, so it often leads to burn tool and the workpiece surface, and it can not be used in theproduction. The electric arc welding is a continuous arc, it only can be used forcutting surfacing or cutting in molten metal. Short arc can pull off the arc to don’tburn of the tool and the workpiece surface, because of the relative motion between thetool and workpiece, even with a pure DC power supply, In contrast, When short arccuts, it can has a high productivity due to the well effect of chip and cooling, and thehuge of a single pulse energy.
