In this paper, we got an α-diimine ligand with a large steric hindrance effectthrough schiff reaction at room temperature. This ligand was synthesizied by2,6-diisopropylaniline and butanedione materials. Then, we obtained the chloro groupα-diimine nickel complexes just through complexing with nickel metal center underthe protection of nitrogen. The diimine ligand and chlorine-based α-diimine nickelmetal complex were characterized by means of infrared spectroscopy, elementalanalysis, X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and gelpermeation chromatography analysis. And the evidences indicated that experimentalresults consistent with theory structures. We focus on the catalytic properties of α-diimine nickel complexes in the base ofsynthesis of it.We carry out ethylene polymerization reaction in n-hexane solventfollowed by Chloro group α-diimine nickel complexes as main catalyst, triethylaluminum (AlEt3) for the cocatalyst at room temperature under atmosphericpressure, and prepared hyperbranched polyethylene. Finally, we copolymerized vinyltriethoxysilane with the generated branched polyethylene, and expected to prepare anovel polymer just through vinyl triethoxy silane grafted branched polyethylene. Theresults show that: the chloro group α-diimine nickel complex had a good catalyticactivity in ethylene polymerization under ambient pressure. And it still had a highcatalytic activity in the polymerization reaction after6hours just at zero temperature, which it was0.325×106g PE/(mol·Ni·h·MPa). The branched polyethylene prepared bythe nickel catalyst of the chloro group possessed large molecular weights, broadmolecular weight distribution. The vinyl triethoxy silane which was used aspolymerizable monomer could also been polymerized with branched polyethyleneunder the action of the late transition metal nickel catalysts. We finally obtained avinyltriethoxysilane grafted branched polyethylene polymers and break out traditionalmethods.
