Wind power is the most technologically sophisticated, most large-scale development ofthe conditions and prospects for development of commercial power generation mode inrenewable energy. And its generation cost has been close to the conventional powergeneration. Wheel hub is the largest significant casting in wind turbine generator. It connectBlower blade with dynamic axis mainly. Because of the operation environment of windturbine generator is so bad. The demand of casting quality is high. Casting requires ultrasonictesting and magnetic particle testing, and should not exceed the casting defects which arerules in the standard including porosity, shrink, holes, slag and surface crack.Ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle testing belong to four conventional testingmethod of non-destructive inspection. At present, our country pays attention to the basictheory research of non-destructive inspection. And has made great progresses.Non-destructive inspection has been an effective use by design department, productdevelopment department and user department. It also widely used in casting detect. But itdoes not have compact structure as forging, and its produce structure is complex, its surface isrelatively rough, and its defective kinds and styles are complex. All of these characteristicscan make ultrasound penetrability poorly, have more clutter, and make the quantitativeassessment of the defects difficultly; moreover, surface magnetic marks of the casting showcomplex, and have pseudo shows which make the assessment of magnetic become verydifficultly.This subject introduces technical requirement of wheel hub casting which is aFD80-2000wind turbine generator with low-temperature style, analyzes the processingdifficulties of casting produce. By taking intermediate frequency furnace smelting, reasonablechemical composition of melted iron, strengthening nodulizing treatment and inoculantstreatment, using the technical measure of elaborately designed pouring system, coolingsystem and feeding system etc, adopting three-dimensional modeling and MAGMA softwareto simulate the process of solidification. All of them are used for selecting the optimal castingprocess scheme, to meet the technical requirements, to achieve the large scale production ofthe casting. This article through the confirmation and practical application of ultrasonictesting and magnetic particle testing on wheel hub to confirm the feasibility ofnon-destructive inspection process method of ultrasonic testing and magnetic particle testingon large and heavy ductile iron casting, and the feasibility of quality judgment standards onlarge and heavy ductile iron casting.
