This paper m ainly take s the hor izontal water storag e de vice of tem perature stratification as the r esearch object and m akes a structur e optimization design of it. Simulate the storage device of inserting plates with different spacings (2cm, 3cm, 4cm, 5cm, 7c m, 9c m, 11c m) and analysis th e tem perature distribution and out let temperature under the sam e flow rate conditions with CFD. The results indicate that the spacing of inserted plate have a dom inant influence on the tem perature stratification performance i.e. the s pacings of the inserted plate for 4cm and 5c m provide a increase in the performance of thermal storage/release, however, spacings of 9cm and 11cm have a poor perform ance with water retention, great heat transfer loss during the process of therm al storage/release, forming temperature transition layers uneasily and reducing the actual us able energy. It is easy for the cold water to b e detained on the bottom forming“dead zones”when the distance of inserted plate is greater than 16cm, which reduce the available cold storage capacity.Based on the results obtained by the numerical sim ulation, the structure parameters of water tank are optim ized a nd designed; C ombined with geotherm al heating system , tem perature stratification t ype of water tank test bench is set up; Experimental research are conducted on the process of therm al storage/release for different inserted plate of 2c m, 4cm , 7c m, 10cm and e xperimental validation of numerical model also has been perform ed. Experimental results show that during the process of thermal energy storage/release, the space of inserted plate plays a great role in suppressing the transverse heat excha nging and tem perature stratification. No matter energy storage or release, the cha nge of half-cycle figure of m erit FOM 1/2 flowing into the area from distribution devi ce is not big at every space, and the performance of temperature stratification mainly affected by the design and layout of distribution device, The perfor mance of cold s torage and heat storage is better when the spacing of the inserted plate is 4cm , The sim ulation calculation methods is validated for analysing the heat transfer characteristics of the energy storage device.
